Luigi Moretti’s iconic “Nave” (Ship), which overlooks Corso Italia, one of the city’s main streets, is one of the most distinctive and prestigious buildings on the whole of Milan’s architectural landscape. It is here that SZA, historic legal firm, has decided to locate its new offices.

After carefully studying the SZA team’s organisational patterns and structural requirements, DEGW came up with a modern, elegant, inclusive and functional design reflecting a profound change of vision compared to the past and a real break with the conventional schemes of a world - the legal profession - that traditionally reverts to the aesthetic canons of classical austerity.

Space planning and interior design are the key features of the third and fourth floors of the ‘Nave’ providing a total of 50 open-space workstations and a wide variety of ancillary spaces surrounded by elegant glass windows guaranteeing authentic transparency and sharing.

Flexible and brightly-lit workstations with ergonomic and technologically cutting-edge furniture are the distinctive traits of the new workspace.

Quiet rooms and phone booths set around the business area meet the need for private spaces for focused work: a fast and intensive workflow calls for somewhere quiet and secluded.

While the third floor is business-oriented with an elegant, minimal and functional design, the fourth floor is open, dynamic and communicative. This is where clients are greeted. Wood gives character and warmth to the reception, which leads - in a very natural but highly visually-striking way - into the Hub area: a hybrid and flexible transition place, which is also a destination allocated for rest, relaxing and conversation. When events are being held, the Hub merges with the Boardroom - thanks to a system of sliding glass partitions - providing visitors with a surprising area to be discovered and experienced.

The elegance of the warm wood in the meeting rooms and boardrooms can also be felt in the wide glass windows and soundproof materials guaranteeing the utmost acoustic comfort.

All the ancillary spaces, such as the Library, Break Area and Meeting rooms, can be used for holding meetings, training sessions and informal meetings. Dynamic spaces encouraging new ways of working that reflect SZA’s desire to partake ina process of constantly updating skills and expertise.
